For me, washing rice is like this: fill a bowl with water, stir the rice vigorously, drain and repeat 5-7 times or until the water will not be clean. The final drain is important as I cook my rice in Berkey filtered water. Most of the bowls I found had holes in the bottom to allow water to drain out immediately. Others had holes too big for jasmine rice. This bowl is superb. It's lightweight but seems strong enough to last a long time. Holes near the rim on only one section allowed the water to fill the bowl almost half full for a thorough rinse, and also not too close to the rim for the rice to spill out. A few grains of rice got stuck in the holes but were easily removed. Lost only about 5 grains out of 4 cups of rice. It is much easier to drain the water when the bottom has such an angle at one section. You can even put the bowl in the sink and just pour out the water. Washing Korean rice or narrower jasmine rice works well. Don't think it will work with anything less than quinoa (preferably through a sieve).
