I bought 2 of these in gray and one from another brand in pink. They are almost identical and both are acrylic. They are very soft. My child throws off all blankets except this one. She sleeps in it every night. After the bath she cries because she is cold. Until I got it. As soon as I snuggle up to her, she calms down and falls asleep before she's finished eating. We also use this in her stroller. I wish my car seat was tied to it, but it isn't. I bought 3 of these because they are used all the time. I machine wash them and tumble dry them (I don't tumble dry). It seems to be getting softer. You won't regret this purchase, especially if you're in a cooler climate or have an awkward baby blanket.
