The YOUYOUTE embroidery kit really does have everything you need. It's perfect for beginners and also good for people like me whose instruments are smashed and haven't aged particularly well. (My old hoop was cork metal with a matching spring. I still have it but the metal is rusty). Honestly, this is the best set I've ever seen. It comes with bamboo hoops of different sizes. They are better quality than I have seen in any set. A pair will need sanding and one is a little warped internally but will work fine. I also much prefer to work with wood or bamboo than with plastic. They have a screw cap, so the hangers are suitable for a variety of fabrics. The set includes 5 large pieces of 14 thread Aida, plus needles and a needle threader, pin cushion and thread ripper, fabric markers and pins, small scissors and a thimble, plus 120 skeins and a handful of yarn. Roll. The only thing I can think of in my sewing kit, which isn't included in this kit, is a tape measure (okay, and some thread), but you don't necessarily need those things to cross-stitch. The embroidery thread is also of quite good quality. I suspect it's polyester, although it doesn't say so. There is a beautiful and very useful color palette (and these are beautiful, muted colors that could or could pass for pearlescent cotton). Another set I received had a lot of neon colors that are fun but not the most common colors. They should give you everything you need, even if you start with a template that requires specific colors, there should be one you can substitute if the exact color isn't available. They are all numbered and I assume they match the dmc numbers. I was going to give the set to my daughter but asked if I could get some hoops and we ended up just splitting the set. It's easy enough for both of us to work. I would recommend this as a gift for a beginner or for myself. That's great value for money when you consider everything that comes with it. The same amount could be spent on an Aida, a hoop, a pack of needles, and a dozen strands of dental floss. I know it will cost the same at my local fabric store and the kit gives you a lot more. It is ideal if you are teaching a young friend or family member as several people (up to 5) are enough to work. I wish I had thought of that the last time we visited my mother. She taught my daughter to knit and crochet and I'm sure she would love to learn to embroider too. (Although she taught herself how to cross stitch). Got it because I recently bought a half dozen tank top dresses which are super comfy, perfect for all the time we spend indoors but after a while. Well they are all blank so I have some great canvases and now I have colors that work with each of them and more.
