Review on πŸ“Ά EnGenius EWS310AP N600 Dual-Radio Wireless Access Point with Network Management by Ronnie Staver

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far I'm impressed.

This is my third enGenius AP and so far I'm impressed. The range that I could achieve in my 2500 sqm. Feet (all on the same floor) not only gave me full coverage, but I could still walk about 75 feet in any direction outside of my home and still get a clear signal. Many of the hotspots I've used in the past couldn't even provide full coverage in my house. Having used enGenius products before, I was already familiar with the method of applying changes and click "Save/Apply", but after making all the changes you need to click the "Changes" link in the top right corner click to actually apply those changes restarting the hotspot. If you've never used these products before, this part may confuse you and make you think you've applied the changes, but you won't see them in action. Also, if you are new to setting up an access point for the first time, you must pay close attention to the steps that are included to get the initial working configuration. The default settings will work for most home users and you only need to set up the SSID and password for your network. Like I said, I'm impressed so far, but the next test will be a functional test on a church where the walls are mostly cinder block and the doors are steel. These include factors that can affect the transmission range of any router/access point and are not brand specific. However, this AP allows you to control the transmit power, but up to 29dBm, which hopefully will help me solve some of the building's material issues and give me enough range for 2 APs to cover a hallway in a building. . If this test is successful, I plan to purchase at least 6 more of these devices and expand wireless access throughout our church. The reasons I chose enGenius over other options are: 1. The ability to control transmit power to increase range in a non-WiFi2 building. VLAN coverage allowing up to 10 independent SSIDs with different access permissions (also requires a VLAN switch)3. Dual band support for 2.4 and 5 GHz access4. The ability to power the device via PoE as most of the places I want to install devices don't have outlets5. Access to network management software available as a separate download from the enGenius website to maintain and manage all devices from one place (software not included as some other browsers have issues with it). really good devices not only for the inexperienced user but also for the IT professional. While configuration can be a bit tricky, it's well worth the time and money invested. I'll update this review again when I get a chance to try it out in a full on-site test.
