Great little device. and makes me REALLY happy that I finally found an alternative to the expensive practice of using a main switch with slave switches in 3 and 4 pin setups. that can quickly become expensive. This little relay works great in 3 and 4 circuits assuming 2 things: you have a neutral and a non-disconnecting always hot power supply in the switch junction box just before the load is switched to light. Almost all new homes should be wired this way. To connect this in a 3-wire configuration, first turn off the power. Then remove the panel and switch from the wall (any switch, you're just guessing for now), disconnect the 3 wires from the switch and note how it's connected. Now turn the power back on and then use your multimeter to touch one wire to each of the 3 wires and the other to bare copper ground. Note which wire has voltage applied to it. Now click on another switch that is still connected. Then go back and check the voltage again. If the voltage is still on the same line as before, you made the wrong choice. This is the wrong switch. Turn off the power, plug it back in, plug it back into the wall, unplug the other one from the wall, and remove the wires. So now you have the right switch to connect the wires to. This would be a great moment to ensure there is always a hot and common wire in the outlet. There should be two bundles of wires, all black and all white. If so, you're probably fine, just measure the black bun to make sure it's hot and measure the white bun to make sure it's not hot. As long as that's the case, you can go. Repeat the test with the device powered on (just to be sure). Measure each wire, one of them will get hot, the other two won't. Go to another switch and press it. The tension changes from one wire to the other. These two wires are your street wires. Connect them to the switch in the same way as before. The other wire is your "LOAD". Now that you have everything you need to know, turn off the power. From here just connect the black HOT wire from the relay to the black wire bundle which is always hot. Connect the white NEUTRAL wire. from the relay to the white wire bundle Then connect the orange AUX connector on the relay to the now open terminal on the switch and connect the red LOAD wire from the relay to the wire you are disconnecting from the switch. Turn the power back on. Now check that both wall switches are controlling the light as before. Then start learning mode in the Hubs app and press the small hole button on the relay to put it in learning mode. At this point they should connect. Just disconnect the circuit here, put the switch back in the wall and turn everything back on. Ready. A configuration with 4 or more paths is almost identical. In a 4-way configuration, there are 2 3-way, 3-port switches and the rest are 4-way, 4-port switches. Checkout Ignore the 4-position switches entirely and follow the steps above to determine which 3-position switch is the correct one.
