My 2006 CBR1000RR is the first chain drive bike I've owned. All others had belts or shafts. Since this is a track bike, I decided to switch from an OEM 530 chain to a 520 chain. To do this, of course, I had to remove the old 530 parts and install new 520 parts. When looking for a chain tool, the choice was very confusing! There are so many different chain tools out there, some even from the same brand! I chose this one based on the price and the reviews. There are chain tools that are cheaper and there are much more expensive ones. Many had pretty bad reviews, but most about this tool were positive. I've never had to break or rivet a chain and really didn't know what to expect. Many inexpensive tools have directions ranging from less than helpful to downright harmful. Luckily, the instructions for the tool are clearly written and accompanied by nice, clear photos. Once I've used the tool I'll probably never need it again, but the very nice plastic case has a pocket on the inside of the lid for the instructions, which is a nice touch. The tool comes with all the parts shown. but it also comes in a handy storage case to store everything when not in use. Another item not shown is that it comes with a second pin which is a good thing because I assume they can break. With clear instructions and beautifully engraved markings on the tool, using it couldn't be much easier. When I broke my 530 chain with a tool, I didn't grind off the pins before pushing them out with the tool. I wanted to see how it goes without it. It worked great. It probably didn't matter much since I pushed out the pins on the old rivet-style master link. I suspect that the pins on it are a bit softer than regular pins. When I wanted to install a new 520 chain, I had to remove the link. I pressed the pins onto the new 520 chain without grinding it. They pushed out very easily. It was easy enough to rivet the chain, but I crushed the first pin. Now I can do it again as soon as I get another masterlink. The instrument is not to blame. As far as I can tell this tool is well made and should last a very long time. I believe it will only fit 5 series chains, 520-525-520 which I believe will fit most modern sport bikes. Keep in mind I have never used any other chain tool but if you need a 5 series chain tool I recommend this one.
