Review on PAC AAI-HD3 14-Pin Auxiliary Input for Honda/Acura 2003-2012 - Satellite or CD Changer Integration by Steve Atchley

Easiest and most economical way to add an extra plug to a 2005 Honda Accord

I recently bought a 2005 Accord and wanted to add an extra plug feature to my car. Replacing a stereo is not an easy task as the stereo and air conditioning are integrated. Options are limited to 1) a kit that replaces the factory stereo and climate control (over $200 for the kit alone) or 2) a kit that installs a second stereo in the console bag and leaves the factory unit in place position (redundant, additional cabling). work, not aesthetically, IMHO). Enter Option 3: Install AAI-HD3 PACK. I recommend researching what is required to install this unit before purchasing - there are some videos on YouTube to help you with that. If you're a little mechanically inclined, it's not difficult at all. Remove some of the console's plastic trim and it simply plugs in. A cable is included to connect the device to your stereo, you will need to purchase a separate cable to connect to your phone/device. The biggest consideration is where and how you route the cable to connect it to your device and I want to think about that before you start as it will speed up the process and avoid 'OOPS' moments. I decided to install a 3.5mm chassis jack in the hole I drilled on the back of the console bag and routed the cable out from the unit. You can also just pass the cable with the 3.5mm plug through the hole. Both cable types are easy to find. Again many ideas/suggestions on YouTube, try searching the web as well. As for the sound quality, it is at the highest level. Crystal clear, no distortion, no interference, no fading. Nothing more to say - it works, plain and simple. Here's what I can share that might be helpful: 1- Please make sure your car/stereo is compatible before purchasing. Check the parts on this list, and then you can check your car too by removing the panel and finding the connector location on the underside of the stereo. The picture for my review is what you see after taking out the console bag and looking inside and up. The area outlined in green is where the device connects. FYI, my stereo had a built in 6 disc CD changer. The console bag returns to its place. I ran mine against the metal notch, right between the rubber stoppers (see the red area in the picture). It worked great. 3- When routing the cable/connector through the console bag, do not use the sides or top - there are moving parts that are likely to get in the way. Use the back/bottom of the bag. And make sure there is enough clearance around this area for the bag to easily snap back into place.

Pros
  • CD changer or satellite mode depending on ability
Cons
  • ill thought out
