I have just installed this brush roll to replace a Dyson original part. We've probably changed the brush roll 3-4 times - it seems we need a new one every 1-2 years. This is the first one I've bought that wasn't a genuine Dyson part. If you compare them, they have the same number of bristles in the same orientation. The black plastic roller appears to be made from the same material as the bristles themselves. The bristles are of equal length and thickness. Some of the internal plastic parts are a different color than the original part, but they don't seem like anything that doesn't work the same way. The only other physical difference I could tell was the number of side grooves in the roller. where you can cut the coiled hair or thread. Personally, I've never had to use them, even with two dogs and three kids, so I don't see that as a disadvantage. This model only has 2 or 3 grooves while the original part has around 8-10. So even if you use them, although there aren't many of them, they're still there. Received the part on time and well packaged from a third party (Tidy Vacuums) and would have no hesitation in saving a few bucks. (I paid $18.99 with free shipping) and will order again in the future. As for durability, time will tell but after installation my Dyson became much more maneuverable and quieter which is typical after replacing this part.
