I have tried many portion scales, this is the first to have everything in one device. You can place a plate, bowl, pan of any size on it, put something in it and still see the display clearly. It has multiple auto shutdown and speed measurement options. I always use on, it just stays on until I turn it off. It performs a self-test within a few seconds of turning it on, but after that, it immediately reads when you add something. No lag or lag like some of the others I have. An adapter is included so you can just plug it in and not worry about battery life or how long you'll have it. I can only appreciate the accuracy, but based on known portion sizes, taking something out and putting it back on the scale seems very accurate and always reproducible. It's also backlit so it's easy to see in all lighting conditions. The top is removable for cleaning and includes a keyboard cover should you need one for some uses. It's a mix of metal and plastic but looks pretty good and has been solid so far. Be sure to check out the quick start guide, there are a few user selectable options that might better suit your needs.
