Review on OuterStar Traction Cleats: 18 Stainless Steel πŸ‘ž Spikes Crampons for Slip-Free Walking on Ice and Snow by Ken Reiff

Poor metal quality lets these rivets down

I really liked these rivets at first because they were cheap and seemed reasonable. But without repair, they didn't even last a whole winter season. (I'm taking a walk in the Catskills, NY. Nothing special.) In particular, the metal of the links under the heel is soft and the links open. This meant emergency repairs en route. If you like sliced fingers, you will love this product. This is the second pair of OuterStars I have. Both had the same problem. The first pair (black) was too big and loose. From the moment they were worn they were in need of repair. I chalk it up to bad size or bad luck. However, this second pair (orange) only climbed half a dozen mountains. In the photo I am renovating their houses before the next trip. A classic tale of fools and fools, I'm afraid.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
