The ad was a bit misleading. Windows didn't see the programming cable at first, but I found a link to the cable manufacturer. The drivers were there. I had "chirp" installed so I just used it. I recommend saving the preloaded frequencies to a different file and starting over. I couldn't add anything to the first (preinstalled) file even though the frequencies were within the allowable ranges of the amateur bands. path not sure. The lapel microphone keeps clicking. Since the programming cable fits and works well, I'm guessing it's a microphone plug. Tidradio has a support group on Facebook, but the admin's response to my single question was pretty short and imprecise. The only other issue is that the external interface gets easily overloaded alongside other EMI RFIs. I'm considering a toroid to fix this. All in all a good starter kit for the price. It scans continuously while I work, and I haven't run out of power for a 12-hour shift yet.
