After weeks of flipping the fish and many, many water changes of 80-90%, I finally realized that our tap water has insane nitrate levels. Some days it's 5.0 ppm, then 80, then 40, 20 and, whoops, 40 again. The city still hasn't figured it out. In the meantime, I add Amquel Plus to the new water before infusing it. I lost a couple of fish in a tank and one didn't seem to survive but after treating the whole tank she gradually recovered over the course of 3 days. No, I do not use Amquel Plus as drinking water. Just checking the nitrates before we fill our jug.
