I bought them for a new used pontoon. I checked what size rope I needed for them and bought four new fenders with that rope size. I was able to easily attach them to the railing. First I put them on the railing, and if necessary I pushed them behind the sofas. It's a tight fit, but it worked great. I have 3 of these on one side of the pontoon with dock level fenders. We are on a long lake, it's windy so there are a lot of waves. I've had summers and they've worked great. I've fitted them with my teeth and find them extremely functional. A very happy customer.
