Everything you need to know about this flashlight

I bought two of these flashlights and used them on two completely different jobs for 7 days in a row. One was a high-end company and the other was a TV pilot, and those things were very comfortable. Here's everything you need to know: Light Output: Very bright for LEDs. With Standard Diffusion enabled, my light meter read 5.6 at 6ft at 24fps. I was also able to put on a standard diffuser (which looks like full mesh cloth to me) and then slip it through a 4x4 frame with 1/2 diffuser at 6ft and the exit was still fairly exposed , without being wide open. . The 2 x 2 foot size is such a nice spot for everything from interviews to soft lighting from top to bottom. Color Accuracy: Good: Using my C-700 colorimeter, the CRI was 98.3 for full tungsten and 96.4 for full daylight (images attached). R9, which is usually a weak point for an LED, was very high. The Kelvin temperature is very accurate at 3000 K, 3200 K and 5600 K (each within 50 Kelvin). Now if you use a colorimeter it doesn't matter because you can dial it in with a number, measure it and keep tweaking it until you get your target number. But I wanted to include this because it is very important to know that you cannot trust the ballast number if it is set to anything other than 3000k, 3200k or 5600k. For example, if the dial is set to 4800,000, the color on my gauge reads 4,400,000. To get the actual 4800,000 I had to set the slider to 5,300,000. Another BIG thing to know is that there is a spike once you get below 5,600,000. So at 5600K on the dial the light is actually 5600K but even at 5550K on the dial it immediately drops to 5250K. So you can't get anything between 5600k and 5300k just by using the device. Not the end of the world, but you want to know what. Ease of use Pros: Luminaire is flexible, super light, looks well built. All of these are wonderful things. It's easy to install in weird places, which is great. Again, bi-color is always beautiful. Usability Cons: So. A lot. Gak. The main downside is the cables. I bought a 30ft head cable which I highly recommend but it adds even more cable. The presence of a ballast and power supply is annoying. In the end I might build some kind of cart that will fit everything. Other Notes: Power. The main reason I wanted to add them to my arsenal is to have something bigger and brighter that I can run on battery. Here's what you need to understand. The camera's batteries are not designed for long-term high power consumption. You may have a V mount that says it's 150W, but it's only rated for 75W of continuous power. This lamp consumes 150 watts continuously. This means that if you put a regular V-mount here, it will A: only last 15-20 minutes and B: get very hot and shut off after 15-20 minutes due to heat (this is the built-in protection in lithium batteries) . Also, the cabling in small V-mounts is often thinner and can actually melt at 150 watts of continuous power. You need a battery with at least 230 watt hours to ensure the long life of this flashlight. A 230Wh or larger V-mount battery should last you about an hour and a half. There are high-power V-mounts that are rated to draw more power and this is the best option, but be aware that these batteries cost around $400 each. Almost the same as this lamp. General Thoughts: For the price, this light isn't heavy. You can recoup them for a few days of rent, and the performance and flexibility are really worth it. Just note that you are not buying a Skypanel replacement. It's a dedicated tool with flexible mounting options, multiple color temperatures, battery operated, very skin-friendly colors and a clean and accurate look in your footage. I highly recommend them as a tool in your kit and am not getting paid to promote them, I'm just a professional using all kinds of tools and sharing my experience with them.
