Review on Sony Alpha DSLR-A550 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only): Professional-grade Imaging Power at Your Fingertips by Ayden Loh ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I do not cease to rejoice at the purchase, a very good deal!

Chose for 2 months. The main competitors are Canon EOS 550D, Nikon D5000. Nikon fell off first, as the oldest of the three, uncomfortable in the hand and with more limited equipment. Canon disappeared due to weak whale optics (I did not plan to buy more at the entrance), slow and stupid LiveView mode, non-rotating display and high cost. If we compare both models, then Canon loses in innovation that Sony has, and wins in the presence of video and a wide range of optics. One of the decisive factors in favor of the Sony A550 was the stabilization built into the body (no need to look for optics with built-in stabilization), as well as the speed of the camera as a whole. In any case, before buying, you need to hold each of them in your hands and look at the photos. Sony A550 is the best choice at the level of Pro Consumer DSLRs. Photos for doubters - in the profile.

Pros
  • 1. High speed operation (Bionz processor) 2. New Exmor Matrix 3. Best Live View on the market 4. Rotatable LCD display with 921,600 pixels 5. HDR mode 6. New kit lens is one of the best in class 7. Stabilizer Steady Shot Inside built into the body 8. 5-level dynamic range optimization mode 9. Rate of fire 7 fps 10. Long-lasting battery 11. Two slots for memory cards of various types (SD and MemoryStick)! 12. Manual focus check in Live View
Cons
  • - Lack of video recording mode, in the conditions of the present market it is worth considering - Expensive optics for Sony, less choice on the market - Sometimes gives out more red tint than necessary (easily corrected in Lightroom, PS)
