As a welder with over twenty years of experience using photochromic lenses from Jackson, ArcOne, Miller, Lincoln, Huntsman, Fiber-Metal, Radnor, Antra and about ten other lesser known brands, I want to know about your usage and expectations to optimize this product. If you want to use it in a very well lit workshop or outdoors in direct sunlight, then this is an exceptional lens! The true color claim is entirely legitimate and even a bit startling. You put on a helmet and look into that lens and every color seems to be the same as before you put it on! I've never experienced anything like this with this lens. A truly immersive experience. When you hit your bow you see what is actually visible, not a green or bluish version of your world. The clarity is exceptional and I honestly rate it higher than some of the 1/1/1/1 [highest auto-dimming lens rating] lenses I've used, even though it's a 1/1/1/2 rating. Lens. If true color and clarity are important factors in your work, then this couldn't be better. However, this lens is a bit darker for its purpose. I ordered shade 10 and I'm glad I did! It's not offered in a tinted version, so you can choose 3/10 [3 is the inactive lens mode and the second number is what it changes to when you take a bow], 3/11, or 3/. 12. Everything worked exceptionally well in very well lit areas, but as I ventured into the darker and more shadowy areas of the store I was surprised at how dim the arc was and I literally had to check to see if it was me. When using them, I wasn't wearing blacked out goggles, but what those of us who work in the Florida sun wear regularly for UV protection. After making sure - and I should add more than once - that I was wearing clear lenses, I immediately decided they were best for job sites in the hot sun. The next best option would be workshops with intense and brightly lit work areas where very detailed work could be done. I haven't tested this for low current sensitivity like TIG work, but I usually use a shade lower than 10 to start with for this type of work, so I didn't test it in this application. Bottom Line: If you're looking for a quality lens suitable for roofing cork welding or roofing work, you won't find a better product. If you need a lens that delivers accurate color while you work, then this is your best option. If you work in a brightly lit environment and need true optical tracking, then this is the perfect option for you. However, if you're switching between light areas and then very dark areas and need to see the exact placement points to hit the arc, this might not work for you. It cannot fully collect the light as it seems to filter it rather than focus it. then it offers a great return on your hard-earned money. My breakdown for this would be 5 stars out of 5 for value, 5 stars out of 5 for clarity and color recognition, 4 stars out of 5 for versatility of use, and 4 stars out of 5 for match to advertised shade. If you're even thinking about getting this, then I say: GO IT! You will not regret it. I'd rather increase the lighting to accommodate this than compromise the quality of my lens and use a less efficient lens due to poor workplace lighting. Because the better you see, the better you can weld.
