Review on πŸ’Ύ UMIXGENE Ultra Speed SSD- 3.2 Gen 2 Interface Portable Flash Drive - 128GB, Silver by Sammy Suratno

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Optimal combination of high speed, endurance, stability, temperature and form factor

external SSDs vs. purchases, I leave my notes below in case it helps someone save a lot of time :( 1 ) Speed: This flash drive runs at a reasonable SSD write speed of over 400MB/s. This is the equivalent of SATA SSDs. This may not compare to internal NVMe SSDs, but there are no such flash/small form factor NVMe SSDs. World speeds as minuses. For example, there have been numerous reports of overheating after just 30 seconds of transfer, resulting in a speed drop of up to 7MB/s. I don't think anyone buying SSD flash drives will see such a drastic difference between 900MB/s and 7MB/s. The hard drive is now my operating system on a flash drive and a significant amount of movie transfers take place as advertised here, with the transfer consistently completing in less than a minute even after transferring over 70GB of data. At this point I stopped the test. (2) Durability and Longevity: This is the only drive I've found with explicit guarantees for both MLC SSD and Gen 2 USB 3.2 connectivity. For reference, MLC specifies the number of bits in an SSD cell, and this number indicates the endurance and lifespan of the SSD, while lower numbers indicate higher performance. For example, for MLC the number is 2 and this is the next best option after SLC for which the number is 1. Alternatives like TLC or 3 bits per cell are of course worse. Because existing SLC drives either have negligible capacity or an outdated connection (USB 2.0), this drive is not only sold at odd prices, it's also an easy choice. Note that by and large the old USB 2.0 connection doesn't matter, but I would expect newer drives to have newer connections. Finally, this drive supports TRIM and UNMAP commands, so your operating system can support the flash drive. Manage your SSD cells, which in turn helps extend the life of your flash drive. (3) Stability and Temperature: This drive has never overheated and has never had a slowdown due to temperature or other factors (e.g. total number of files transferred) (4) Form Factor: This drive uses the smallest form factor and that was, what I was looking for convenience. I took some photos with my new xD phone and you can see the size next to the mouse. This particular one has unrivaled aesthetics but can also be attractive in the hand.
