As with some other reviewers, the main issue with this subwoofer is the lack of a power button. The only options are automatic on or off. Another option is a 12 volt trigger to turn the subwoofer on and off along with the receiver. However, my Sony STR-DN1080 receiver does not support or have a 12V trigger socket. The manual for my receiver expressly states that any automatic activation of the subwoofer must be deactivated. However, this subwoofer does not allow you to simply turn the device on. When the subwoofer is set to auto, it only wakes up when I crawl behind the TV, flip the switch from auto to off, and then back to auto. I will not do it. Once turned on, the subwoofer sounds good (though not as good as I was hoping). If I leave the switch off I never hear any sound from the subwoofer, so this switch is just a power switch, not an auto lockout like my previous Sony subwoofer. I spent hours last night playing with the settings on my receiver to see if I can get this to work properly, but no matter what I've done when the subwoofer goes to sleep (the LED on the back lit red), then the only way it knows the receiver is on is if I flip the switch on the back is the same. I'm going to hook up my 15 year old Sony subwoofer which sounds almost as good as this unit and allows me to disable the auto power on mode. I thought a new subwoofer would improve my home theater but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. EDIT: I think my review might be a bit unfair even though it didn't work for my situation. Whilst I am still very disappointed with this unit this is mainly due to an auto on or just off issue not working with my receiver but the unit has very very powerful bass which can be amazing when watching an action movie. . It knocked my old subwoofer out of the water with its power and room-shattering bass. My wife felt the house on the other side shake completely as I watched the film. This subwoofer seemed too powerful for my 16x12 home theater, which affected my perception of sound quality. To be fair, if I didn't just have an "auto-on" or "off" problem, I'd ditch that subwoofer and go with a set of these to keep the whole house from shaking. The really big disappointment was that the automatic didn't work in my setup. I returned the HTS 10 and received a Polk Audio DSW Pro 440 (8" instead of 10"). The 10" HTS subwoofer was huge. This subwoofer was about the same size as my old subwoofer. It obviously doesn't have the same power as the HTS 10, but it has an "on" function and also an "auto". -On" function of this subwoofer works with my receiver. 440 sounds good but nowhere near as powerful as the HTS 10 (can't expect it to be that powerful just to point out). I'm happy with 440, but i had to turn the subwoofer volume up to 30 (from 40) and it still rocks my theater room but not the whole house :)
