Beat the splitter by more than double its price

We've been having a serious splitting problem in a setup we're building for several months. Our setup features two dual-display systems (4 monitors total) - a pair of standard Viewsonic 24" LCDs and another pair of proprietary OLED microdisplays designed to mirror the 24" LCDs. At first we used cheap, unpowered splitters that made a lot of noise. We then tried active splitters like the Gefen 142DL. This improved our noise somewhat, but still added artifacts (even after adjustment). Take Tripp Lite. It worked flawlessly in our setup, giving us a strong signal to all four monitors that we couldn't interfere with no matter how hard we tried. I'm not surprised that they claim you can cascade three of these devices. I have not seen a single splitter that would deliver such a clean and powerful signal. The only disadvantage of this splitter is that it does not contain an EDID. So we had to insert an EDID block between the computer and this splitter. Even with this unit and another 6ft DVI cable, there is still no noise on either display once disconnected. Pros: As a splitter, this device is great for digital signals (not analog). That's less than half the cost of other powered splitters. In our experience, that didn't work either. Cons: No EDID No analog signal

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • so far so good
