It'll take a few tries, but you'll eventually get it

This item couldn't be cheaper. I bought it to convert some old VHS tapes to digital. It "plugged in and works" with no problems on a Windows 7 PC. I used a mini CD to install the capture software, which is fairly easy. You will see a screen asking for a product key. This is not stated on the packaging nor in the literature they provide. Instead it's in a file called "SN.txt" on the installation CD in one of the subfolders (I think it's TVR25). It took some audio property adjustments to bring the volume down below the distortion level. This product uses a USB 2.0 microphone recording device. Don't be embarrassed about it. This is now one of the audio devices in the Recording Properties section. But it's actually the audio stream of what you're recording. I just lowered the volume and the audio became normal for recording. Also, I had to play around with the video settings to get the picture to look as normal as possible. However, this can be due to dirty VCR heads. I'll know as soon as I clean them. You can adjust the video settings in the software while your source is playing before hitting record so you can see in advance what it will look like. All in all, for $12 this is a great solution for getting content from analog sources. too digital.
