Works great as a garage door access keypad

I got tired of my old Genie garage door opener keypad breaking down every year or so due to the weather so after 4 replacements I had had enough. I was looking for a waterproof keyboard and found it. This device is better than my old Genie keyboard in every way. It looks much nicer and much more modern. It is backlit so you can use it at night and in low light. It has a true waterproof rating. It appears to be designed for industrial/commercial use, so it's durable and reliable. Where the Genie is thin plastic, it's thick metal. Where Genie had cheap blister buttons that are prone to mechanical damage, this device uses touch sensitivity with no moving parts. Where the Genie is limited to a single code, this device can have multiple codes and multiple users, can use RFID cards and RFID key fobs, or even a combination of RFID and code. I have decided to program one code for myself and another code for guests so I can change the guest code from time to time. I didn't buy a separate controller. This unit will work on its own without it, assuming you have another 12V source to power it - I had a spare 12V AC/DC wall bug. To use it as a garage door keypad like me: and red on my device). Connect the garage door opener "door button" wires, probably NO and COM, to the NO and COM wires on the keypad (blue and purple for me). Program a relay delay of 1 second. Arrow, works like a charm. I also wired an exit button to the block on the inside of the garage door so I could open the door from the inside. The only thing I don't like is the constantly flashing red light. It's too flashy for home use and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off in programming. I put a piece of black tape on it.

Pros
  • Full keypad programming
Cons
  • disappears
