I love martingale collars. They're a bit taboo for some people, but they're more humane as they distribute the pressure of the pull around the entire neck instead of concentrating all the force right in the front of the neck. I can only find single color martingales in stores so I was very happy to find them. These collars are awesome, so cute and so strong! The material is similar to that of a seat belt, so it's very smooth, but thick and durable. There is no fastener to fail, all fasteners are metal. I really like how wide they are as the wider collar also helps spread the pressure. I got a medium size for my little guy (20lbs, 13" neck) and a large size for my older boy (50lbs, 19" neck). Keep in mind that without a proper fit, the usefulness of martingales disappears. When the loop is tightened with the leash ring, the metal parts connecting this loop to the neck loop should not touch. When they touch, the force of their tension is not properly distributed, which can lead to neck injuries. Even if you have a hard puller, these special collars are so comfortable that they're more likely to pull. Sometimes my little one gets agitated and tries to pull us towards something that irritates him and the collar is so comfortable it pulls a lot harder than a traditional collar. However, I sometimes mistake him for a little penguin if that means he's much more comfortable overall. And above all, they feel safe in these collars. I'll definitely be back when they start looking messy, but I have a feeling that won't be happening any time soon.
