Im impressed with my radio ready to use. However, there are a few things I don't like. Color and brightness of the display play almost no role. Mine is set in the ground with the sleeper and it's pretty darn dark most of the day and you can still barely see it. If I had it in a sedan or day cab/pickup I would have to return it. Big mistake on a single part. But I got it working in my situation. The HF gain, which is digitally 1-5, doesn't seem to have any fine tuning. And the squelch is turned up almost 3/4 to get clean. I've used it both ways, RF on 5, squelch on, squelch off and RF on 2 or 3 and it works right out of the box. But none of the adjustments seem to have a sweet spot. Maybe it's my experience. Well, both are small potatoes when it comes to how good radio really is. Shame about the dim display on the panel because this radio comes out and hears perfectly. I plan on removing (or replacing) the rubber jig in the mic and then adjusting the radio, but other than that I'll keep it stock. although I liked it) and a brand new Galaxy 949 that has stood the test of time, it was returned, fixed, fixed. Not a fan. So I tried it with an old friend from when I was young and I'm glad I did.
