I don't know what's wrong with this design, but it just seems smoother. While I'm familiar with the innards and principles of glue guns, wood burner kits, soldering irons, etc., I don't have a full working knowledge of materials and how they fit together mechanically. Some materials just seem smoother and this is one of those cases. the device heats up quickly; more than others I've had. The transfer port doesn't seem to "leak" as much as the others. Although it still oozes, it's not that bad and seems to be testing itself after the first fall. Pros: Easy to use. Limited seepage. Detachable plug. Stable construction from base to tip. Fully assembled view in the uploaded image. Cons: I have to say I'm not a big fan of the glue that came with it. This is not a problem for me as it is a consumable item that I can replace with a product of my choice. But even the best adhesive contributes to a better "first impression”. There is no heat regulation. Full on or off. There are times when I don't want the glue to be so tacky and I need a shorter cool down time. This requires a temperature differential and an adjustable heat range would make this item ideal. Thoughts: I like hot glue for very specific purposes. I've never seen hot glue as a "permanent" connection for anything other than a custom PCB in project boxes. It's also just because there probably aren't any "adjustments" I need to make to these designs. There is a very narrow range of materials for which hot glue is a long-term solution. I dabble in very few of them. The only thing I would like to change about it is the thermoregulation function. Otherwise it is a highly recommended item.
