I have had a Brentwood kettle for about 2 or 2.5 years. It was good while it lasted. The auto shut off has never let me down, and a fully filled kettle heated from room temperature to boiling in about 2-3 minutes. Over the course of two years, I've only had a few rare instances where the water had a slightly off-taste after going through the kettle, but a thorough washing of the internals usually solved the problem. The inside of the kettle is made entirely of metal (apart from the lid), so you don't have to worry about less heat-resistant plastic coming into contact with water when cooking. My kettle eventually died due to a power outage. The connection point is exposed, so there is a chance that it will come into contact with water if you are not careful. I think in my case some water got into either the bottom of the kettle or the base. In any case, my kettle's death was accompanied by a rather dramatic electrical spark. Didn't light anything, but a little scared. But for a more cautious user (since I will confess that water always gets on everything) the kettle should last a very long time.
