I switched from down to down a few years ago for practical reasons. Duvets are expensive to clean, and after a while the feathers start coming out in incomprehensible places, and from time to time I feel like a feather is poked at me here and there. Smart alternatives to down - they are machine washable and hypoallergenic. The downside is that they usually don't feel as soft, soothing, or cloudy. This buoyancy is often missing in the weight distribution as well. Well, with this brand from Downright I completely changed my mind! If there is a difference between this and a duvet, I don't get it. From the moment I opened the elegant, lightweight fabric bag and pulled out the duvet, I felt its luxury. The thread count may be an exaggeration - there are many important factors to consider - but those 330 thread counts indicate quality cotton. This particular blanket is an "all season weight" that I prefer even though I live in Austin, Texas. Since we leave the air conditioning on when the weather is warm, I can wear this duvet all year round. My husband and I are also used to the bedding used in Europe on our travels. They don't typically use a top sheet, preferring instead a comforter which I'm happy to have against my skin IF it's soft and silky. This Sierra Downright is the softest down alternative I've ever had - I can't praise it enough. I'm not surprised to learn that Downright is a family business founded in Eastern Europe. Downright also claims that no other duvet can match their brand's breathability, a problem common to most down alternatives. Filling The filling consists of polyester material Comforel. Maybe it's just marketing bullshit, but I'm convinced of its quality, lightness and luxury. Upper - 100% cotton, very soft cotton satin. It's a baffle construction, which means it's a 3D fabric wall construction that keeps the filling evenly distributed to eliminate cold spots. Circumferential satin piping goes even further to ensure the quality of aesthetics, design and construction. Now I sleep with it every night even though the summer nights are hot outside. The softness and weight distribution is perfect for me. This is also a beautiful snow-white color blanket with quality stitching. I can't say enough good things about this blanket.
