Review on πŸ’‘ ROBERTSON Fluorescent EBallast RSW234T12120 RSW240T12120: Reliable & Efficient Lighting Solution for Fluorescent Tubes by Matt Williams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Added bonus: also works with LED bulbs

They were advertised as replacements for my old 90's ballasts but were half the size and 1/3 lighter so I was skeptical. After a bit of research I found that older heavy duty ballasts use a magnetic core while newer ballasts use transistors, which explains the difference in size and weight. So they fit a ballast socket mount on the phosphor panel, but a new bolt hole needs to be drilled at the other end. After installing new ballasts I looked for new fluorescent tubes but found none available and ridiculously expensive. Apparently they are gradually being replaced by LED lamps. Surprise! These ballasts work with both LED tubes and old incandescent lamps. Wiring can be confusing as the old ballasts used 3 sets of dual color wires and the new ballasts used 4 sets of dual color wires. Simply connect as shown on the schematic sticker on the ballast. It's easy to remove the tombstone pickups, and a large, unfolded paperclip inserted into the secondary hole above the electrical wire and pushed down while gently tugging on the wire will loosen it. New wires are put in the same hole as the old ones. It's easier than splicing wires. Very easy if you can remove all the attachment.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Unreliable
