Incorrect website description: Product has brown wires

I have had to replace my old F40T12 4-lamp Advance ballasts with proprietary wiring harnesses. The old ballasts had yellow, red and blue wires, exactly the same as the description and schematics on Robertson's website. The correct ballasts from Robertson arrived the next day however they have yellow, red, blue and BROWN wires. , and the circuit diagram was not compatible with the old ballasts. I'm not sure why the same model number has a different design and schematics on the website and inโ€ฆ

Ballast for 4' fluro

Maybe I was in the cheap category. I bought this ballast to fit a 4 foot light that is no longer working. In fact, replacing the ballast was not only cheaper but also easier than replacing the entire fixture. The ballast arrived as expected and the wiring is color coded for easy installation. I have ordered several of the same items and they all fit together except for the missing twist locks on one. It took about 10 minutes to assemble the tools (screwdriver and pliers), turn off the powerโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Two extra brown wires?

First of all, don't pay attention to the picture in the ad. This ballast may have the same product list, but it's nowhere near what I bought a few years ago. I'm gradually changing out the ballasts in my fluorescent lights and I blindly ordered what I did last time. I spent at least an hour trying to figure out what was coming out and what to do with the extra brown wires. After studying the ballast connection diagram, I should have just returned it. Instead, I decided to spend a few hours andโ€ฆ

Pros

What you see and what you get are not the same.

Same story as the 1 star review posted here on July 15th. The item I received is not a sale item. The wiring is completely different. Connection instructions are completely different. The item I received has a total of 6 wires on the left end (if you look at the ballast to read the schematic) and 4 wires on the right end. Right end 4 - 2 red wires and 2 brown wires. The left end has 2 blue wires, 2 yellow wires, and a white and black wire for power. Such a number of wires and the connectionโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Has flaws

Added bonus: also works with LED bulbs

They were advertised as replacements for my old 90's ballasts but were half the size and 1/3 lighter so I was skeptical. After a bit of research I found that older heavy duty ballasts use a magnetic core while newer ballasts use transistors, which explains the difference in size and weight. So they fit a ballast socket mount on the phosphor panel, but a new bolt hole needs to be drilled at the other end. After installing new ballasts I looked for new fluorescent tubes but found none availableโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Unreliable

After over 13 years I've had to replace the ballast in both lamps in my garage and after seeing the T8's makeover and such I decided to stick with what I've been doing all these years worked for me so i bought 2 ballasts and it has to be the easiest install i have ever done. The schematic was clear, the wires are long enough for each fixture (you will most likely need to cut a bit shorter) so 4 inches shorter so before I drilled a new hole I realized that all I really needed was a large oneโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Some difficulties

They work great! ballast compatible

I have a lot of T12 lightbulbs so I decided to buy these T12 ballasts instead of replacing them with T8s. Received my Revain ballasts today and replaced them with two lights that buzzed and flickered. I moved the ballast so that the wires reach all four sockets. To do this I had to drill two small holes in the top of the bracket to screw on the ballast. Since the two outputs had a short jumper, I removed the two outputs, pulled the wires out of the wire holes, and plugged the new wires directly

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

Couldn't be happier!

Super easy to replace if you're a bit mechanical. These particular ballasts are smaller than the OEM ballasts I replaced. I didn't worry about drilling new mounting holes and all that. I was lucky enough to just use one of the old ballast's mounting screw holes to hold it in place. If they were contacted daily, yes, but they are not. A mounting screw was enough to hold the ballast in place while I worked. You will find that you will need to cut the wiring provided as there is DEFINITELY a lotโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive

Over the last 20 years I have replaced every ballast in my house as needed. Why mention it? I just want to point out that I can install it reliably and reproducibly with the usual ballast and it works. I received this ballast and in addition to the usual white, black, red, blue and yellow wires that I am used to seeing, this ballast includes a pair of brown wires. I studied a tiny map on the ballast and googled, binge, yahoo'd. My device had a setup where the end with the yellow wires was tiedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • I will add later
