Review on πŸ’Ž Efficient Sharpening with DMT D8F Dia Sharp Continuous Diamond: Unleash the Power of Diamond Grit! by Loren Schmidt

Manufacturing Defect

Edit 3: Before I sent my second defective stone back I called DMT customer service and they were great. I'm quite happy now. It's an aggressive grindstone with a very useful grit. Too bad I didn't have to go through the hardships to get good, but I'm glad I did. If you receive a defective stone, which happens with some regularity, do not return it to Revane. . Call DMT on the number on the box and if they are as good for you as they are for me you will be happy. Initial review and first two edits: This stone had a manufacturing defect - a mottled surface with real thumbprints. , numerous scratches and other defects. They are so prominent that there is no need to go through quality control. It will probably sharpen well, but a damaged surface is just plain ugly. See my product photos. I want to support American manufacturing, but this reminds me of the 1970s when you had to buy imported cars if you wanted a quality car. I've tried scrubbing fingerprints and other smudges with soapy water and a copper brush, but that didn't work. . Of course, cleaning still won't fix scratches and dents. I'm sending it back for an exchange and will update my review when a new one comes out. Edit: The second stone was damaged by a black hard coating that has peeled off leaving what appears to be permanently discolored. Unlike the first stone, the diamond surface seems fine so I'll keep it, but I'm disappointed with the poor quality control of DMT. Edit 2: My blade slides over the discolored area and makes noise as it goes over it. . Not good, this one is coming back too. The DMT packaging is also inferior. It comes in a very large cardboard sleeve with a partially open diamond-shaped finish. At this price level, a basic plastic storage box should be included, even if it adds a few bucks to the price.
