I switched to a peg-page planner and wanted to be able to put my personalized notes and papers in it. Rapesco is a reputable name, the price was right, and the reviews were decent, so I ordered an adjustable punch. The product arrived quickly and in like new condition (I noticed several other reviewers mentioned receiving used product). I tried it right away and noticed that one of the "pins", called the directional punch, didn't retract after the punch. , which means you can't pull the paper out without tearing it. I took out a magnifying glass and couldn't see the cause of the jam. I considered returning it but decided to insist. I was able to pop the stylus back out by removing the bottom shell and inserting the stylus with a screwdriver. I then put a tiny drop of WD40 on the post, knowing it might stain my documents, but that didn't stop it from sticking. Thought maybe using the stamp repeatedly would loosen the sticky needle. Unsuccessful! Finally, I removed the back again and levered out the stop pin with a small screwdriver. I must have done something, maybe knocked off a stray piece of plastic, but it seems to be working fine now. Question two: After that I looked at the adjustable options. There are NO instructions on the box but luckily I saw that there is a video on the order page. I found my journal was A6 and the original setting in my notebook worked fine although the lines were lined up for A5 (see photo). Haven't figured it out yet. If you have an A5 notepad, watch the video. You should know beforehand that you will only be using one end of the punch and that you will need to turn the paper over for the second set of holes. In addition, setting the interval is not always intuitive. You need to remove the bottom tray and use some sort of flat tool to change the settings (see second photo). Third problem: I couldn't punch it through 10 sheets of paper. Five worked well, going as high as eight, but 10 sheets jammed. One last question: On the underside of the tray is a removable plastic tab that covers a small (1 inch) white laminate/plastic/paper rectangle. I can't figure out what it is, but I'm wondering if it's designed to slide over the slot you put paper in in case you get a "confetti" jam. Conclusion: I argued between 3 and 4 stars. Now that it works I'm very happy. However, I'm not sure how many people want to go through all of this to get there. Advice for consumers: 1- Check the machine immediately; If there is a problem, send it back and ask for another one. (When it works it seems to be working fine, but please note I've just received it so its durability has yet to be determined.) 2-Watch the A5 instruction video. Suggestions for Rapesco: 1- Best quality control. Fast exchange in case of problems. 2-Make sure used items are marked as such. 3- Add instructions on the packaging.
