The reason I bought it was to keep track of my pencil. Why this one? Note the KEYRING on the pen holder. This means I can easily replace the badge portion of the spool if it breaks. The thread is quite thick but relatively short, if I need a longer badge spool I just take the pen holder part and put it on a new one. Dollar stores, craft stores, grocery stores, they have some kind of retractable ID roll. Also, I use a regular woodworking pencil (what?) YES. I don't like the feel of a carpenter's pencil, it's too bulky and I like sharp points. So I need to thicken the ends of the pencils to fit and stick them in a hot glue gun. Just put some on my pencil, let it dry and bam! Now with this stand here I can use a regular pencil.
