The cage is strong! The latch looks like metal but it's plastic - very disappointing. Not the same latch as in the instructions. Although I read the instructions very carefully, I turned one part upside down at first, but it's not that difficult to fix. In it we keep our little giant Flemish rabbit. Hopefully she can jump in and out later when she's older. Unfortunately our not entirely trustworthy dog opened the door that early morning without our knowledge. We're now using a reusable zip tie at the top to be extra careful. Aside from the chain, I don't know the best way to attach it. The tray was cracked in two places, a small piece was missing and is quite thin compared to the metal cage. The trays are interchangeable but I didn't want to pay to send them back. I would buy it again if I could see a different locking system. The cage is very well made.
