Review on Emsa Samba Quick Press Insulated Server in Vibrant Red - Perfect for Retaining Heat by Christopher Wells

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Transparent nonsense.

The aroma of coffee - fresh coffee - is complicated by various essential oils. Volatile elements evaporate quickly, so after a while the coffee takes on a dirty taste. Instead of keeping my morning coffee warm for 2 hours, after pouring my first cup, I want to seal the rest. Sometimes I drink it up in the afternoon, sometimes I leave a sip until the next morning. I want it still hot but I agree it's warm enough. When the steel hull of the old Thermique rusted through, I was persuading Revain to buy another Thermique. They cost ninety-nine dollars. ! I'm sure they are very, very good. After purchasing a cheaper item that had a much larger volume than I wanted, I got this one. It doesn't keep coffee grounds hot for 24 hours like Thermique, but warm enough. I definitely don't think a cup of coffee in the afternoon is cool. ---------------------- -------------- ---- ---------- ---- Now a complaint. The plastic of this pot is "translucent". I figured that means I can see how much coffee I have left if I take the translucent one. There is also an opaque white. In either case, heat is transmitted in three ways: CONVECTION (any sealed container, even a metal container, will prevent this), CONDUCTIVITY (maximum vacuum layer will reduce this), and RADIATION (infrared light). The vacuum side of the inner glass liner is silver-plated for radiation. It has to be real silver because aluminum absorbs infrared radiation while silver reflects it. So this item is silver plated inside and the coffee is not visible. Translucency means nothing for people of color, but it looks worse for white. I don't have an elegant designer kitchen, so this is trivial. But I think I should have gone with opaque white or red. So I'm rating this 4¾ stars, which rounds up to 5.
