Review on Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine - Iron Frame, Stainless Steel Side Panels, 11.4" x 13.4 by Susan Rolfs

Requires additional hardware to earn raves.

This unit replaced my first Silvia which served us both in daily morning use for 19 years. Like its predecessor, it's capable of brewing an espresso on par with your favorite Italian coffee shop, but only if you add 2 fairly expensive ingredients, show curiosity and patience to get through the learning curve, and the ability to play around with the insides (easy if you can follow simple instructions). These items are the coffee grinder and the Auber PID. Some manufacturers sell models with the PID already set (it's worth it for technophobes). Too much for you? Then find another car. This version has the boiler wrapped in insulation which will likely increase its lifespan as the old one died due to blown wire insulation. Cycles of the heating element due to better heat retention. The steel frame and (true) stainless steel cladding combine to create a beautiful and durable unit that you will enjoy for years to come.
