Don't expect a negative 30 but decent gloves

I live in the coldest city in North America so I'm always looking at new cold weather gear. I've been looking for the perfect gloves for temperatures from 0 to -40 degrees and while that's not all I'm actually pretty happy with this pair. These are thick gloves, lots of insulation and comfortable to wear. The heavy insulation limits articulation a bit, especially at the fingertips, but that's usually to be expected. They do their job well when held around -20 or so, but beyond that it's difficult for your hands to generate enough heat to maintain what you would call "warmth". At very low temperatures below -20, a pair of quality mittens for such temperatures seems to be sufficient. On the coldest days I opt for a pair of Black Diamond Mercury Mittens which I have personally tested down to a 52 below. For short periods, e.g. B. commuting, these gloves will perform well even at -40°F. What impresses me is that I'm seeing about the same performance as very high end cold weather gloves over $150. That's impressive for the value of these things. While I prefer these guiding gloves for hard work in extreme cold, they are great for everyday use when I don't need to use my hands much. I've used these gloves more than once to rock my snow blower in -20°F for over an hour. It's inconvenient but I can handle what I need and it's a complex application to build any kind of engineering equipment. In terms of value for money they are quite good for some non-branded gloves. Edit: There are a lot more reviews of these gloves these days. My positive experiences under extreme conditions probably contributed to this. Obviously, there are different degrees of cold tolerance. These gloves don't have built-in heaters, your hands won't get hot even in freezing temperatures. I consider these gloves an alternative protection against frostbite. Cold is not comfortable. At a temperature where some people have issues with these gloves, I'm starting to consider wearing a long sleeve shirt. If you don't like cold weather, you should probably consider battery-heated gloves, or better yet, HotHands glove inserts. When I talk about running an hour+ with a snow blower in temperatures below minus 20, I am of course using HotHands insoles. You may still need gear for your specific conditions.
