Very sensitive to battery voltage - not suitable for batteries (Nimh)

These connectors are great when working properly BUT they are VERY SENSITIVE TO BATTERY VOLTAGE. When I first got them I could barely see the glow from them and the controller didn't change the brightness. Since all 3 candles looked the same, I figured something else might be causing the problem. It's BATTERIES! First I put in freshly charged NiMH batteries. These batteries claim to be 1.2 volts per battery and I actually got 2.6 volts for two of them. Then I put in two "non-rechargeable" alkaline batteries - and got a voltage of 3.24 volts. I took a third of my spark plugs and plugged them into a regulated power supply I have and set them to 2.7 volts just for comparison. In the attached image, the barely visible candle on the left is powered by 2.6 volt batteries. The center candle is powered by a 2.7 volt power supply and the candle on the right is powered by two 3.24 volt alkaline batteries. Even though we think AA batteries are exactly 1.5 volts, they aren't and it depends on the battery type. Normally this is not a problem, but with these candles it is. Don't plan to use them with Nimh batteries. It doesn't work very well - you have to use regular alkaline batteries. Not good. The attached picture says it all.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Very expensive
