Review on πŸ›’ WEN 73004T: Heavy-Duty 500 lb Capacity Utility Cart for All Your Hauling Needs by Richard Sallah

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Generally reliable, but if you use it frequently replace all caster nuts with individual M8-1.25 Nylock nuts

Overall a solid all round cart but I had to modify the reel mount to get it turning properly There were two related issues, both due to M8 carriage bolts, split lock washers (yes they used them) and Hex nuts used to attach the rollers.1.Split lock washers are absolutely horrible from an engineering standpoint. They are actually worse than no washers to keep the bolts/nuts from loosening. If you actually plan on using this as a highly mobile cart and not basically to be used as a stationary shelving set, do yourself a favor and throw out the split lock washers and regular sec Remove the socket head nuts that come with this kit and replace them with nylock nuts. . Carriage bolts have a thread size of M8 (1.25). You may be able to ignore the split lock washers and just try to overtighten the plain hex nuts to prevent them from loosening, but you will likely round the square base of the carriage bolt in the plastic shelf before tightening enough.2. One of the caster wheels on mine couldn't rotate a full 360 degrees without hitting at least one of the nuts no matter how it was adjusted. Replacing the plain hex nuts that came with this cart with standard M8 nylock nuts helped reduce interference; The hex nuts that come with this carriage have a 9/16" internal diameter (although they have M8 threads), while the standard M8 nylock nuts have a smaller hex diameter of 13mm. With these I was able to adjust it so only one nut just barely hits the swivel, but even then I had to grind down the part of the stamped steel plate of the swivel that hit the nuts to really let it spin freely. Would give five stars if the product came out of the box with the nylock nuts and if the caster didn't need filing.

Pros
  • Two 36" x 24" x 4" shelves support up to 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight
Cons
  • Not bad , but...
