We needed another digital thermometer for our second home and saw this unit which also has the option to insert a probe to notify when the set temperature is reached. It's one of those features that you have no idea about, but once you use it, you can't understand how you used to live without it. Instead of guessing when the food will be ready, now open and close the oven to repeatedly take the temperature. You simply insert the probe, set the desired temperature, attach the main unit to the nearest metal object (or place it on the counter) and just wait for the beep. With this usage, the device will constantly display the temperature and then simply wait until you hear a beep indicating the heating is complete. Just great. As an added bonus, although the device comes with one battery installed, the manufacturer has been thoughtful enough to include a second battery that can be used when the first one dies. It will be a very good gift for our kids, which is why we love it so much, we will get one for each one.
