After moving into a new house and experimenting with different cable modem placements, I found that cable type affects the performance of my cable modem. If I had used poor quality/old style coax the modem would take about 5 minutes to turn on as the signal was very weak. The speed was also pretty terrible due to the old outlet and cord, and the connection dropped at times. The plumber who installed the new outlet in the home explained that his new wiring would help with the signal. Not knowing exactly what cable I needed, I pulled the trigger hoping to finally place the modem and router. It worked exactly as it should and my cable modem started up right away. The speed is great, no problems so far.
