Review on Garmin RV 780 GPS Navigator with Real-time Traffic Updates by Noel Schmits

Terrible routing for motorhomes. Look elsewhere

I bought this as a backup for my camper van's built in GPS. That was a good thing, because my new motorhome didn't have an SD card with maps, so I had to rely solely on Garmin - give it a try. What a disaster. Despite entering the size, weight, etc. of my motorhome, it regularly drives me on roads that are too small, GROUND ROADS (yes! dirt roads) and renders this device unusable. It has some good features like steep hill warnings, tight corners etc. Some features SHOULD be cool but they aren't. For example, warn me about a car crash 45 miles away. I really want to like it and until my gps sd card arrives from the manufacturer I'm sticking with it BUT I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN and after 3000 miles on it I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT for camper drivers or those who tow caravans or fifth wheels. I expected a lot more from Garmin.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
