Terrible routing for motorhomes. Look elsewhere

I bought this as a backup for my camper van's built in GPS. That was a good thing, because my new motorhome didn't have an SD card with maps, so I had to rely solely on Garmin - give it a try. What a disaster. Despite entering the size, weight, etc. of my motorhome, it regularly drives me on roads that are too small, GROUND ROADS (yes! dirt roads) and renders this device unusable. It has some good features like steep hill warnings, tight corners etc. Some features SHOULD be cool but they…

DO NOT UPGRADE RV760LMT to RV780&Traffic

If you don't plan on controlling this unit from your phone most of the time, it's NOT worth the price: RV760 had excellent traffic info, much more accurate and frequent traffic hazard warnings and so on . The RV780 provided absolutely no traffic information, very little road hazards, etc: I believe most of this information could have been gleaned via bluetooth and your cell phone, except what they expect you to do when you're out of range of a cell phone (god, isn't it about going back to…

Sends vans down roads where they are banned

We bought this unit for our camper because we plan to drive more on unfamiliar roads. It proved largely useless for its stated purpose of navigating RV-friendly routes. As indicated, we have entered the dimensions of our trainer. When we first rode it over Labor Day weekend, we encountered traffic on I-95 in Connecticut that was even worse than usual. This was a trip we've taken many times, so we just wanted it use to familiarize ourselves with it. Garmin proposed an alternate route that…

Instantly becomes a paperweight.

I have not used this item. You see, I called a Garmin RV specialist because I live in an RV. It arrives ready to use - perfect! - and as soon as he connected to our mobile network, he immediately said that he wants to update, and I said that everything was fine. The problem is that at that point it will immediately erase the map data on the device - then attempt to download more than 7GB of map data - and that download doesn't support renewal. So if you're trying to upgrade that RV GPS module…

This machine is AMAZING

What an amazing machine! My wife and I just completed a 4,000 mile RV trip across 9 states on our newly purchased Garmin RV780. MY GOD! I must have exclaimed 50 times how much I love this GPS while driving. The display is very intuitive and easy to understand and clear. It doesn't matter because we all expect it these days. The shocking part is the amount of information stored... rest stops, camping, entertainment, restaurants and more. The high point was when my wife announced she wanted…

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • A few little things

Finally something works!

After two nightmarish trips along the US east coast with other mapping products and even truck GPS on my iPhone, this is what I needed all along! Unlike anything I've tried, this thing not only manages routing based on trailer/RV size (length, height, and weight), but also lets you determine how much propane you have on board so the route for things like exactly is tunnel. I've found that traffic seems more accurate (in real time) when using the Garmin Drive app. I can't say the device ever…
