Review on Garmin RV 780 GPS Navigator with Real-time Traffic Updates by Isaiah Edgar

After two nightmarish trips along the US east coast with other mapping products and even truck GPS on my iPhone, this is what I needed all along! Unlike anything I've tried, this thing not only manages routing based on trailer/RV size (length, height, and weight), but also lets you determine how much propane you have on board so the route for things like exactly is tunnel. I've found that traffic seems more accurate (in real time) when using the Garmin Drive app. I can't say the device ever used the built-in traffic accounting feature that's included unlike the older RV 770, but it did a great job of calculating actual time in traffic and actual time of arrival. I really liked the accurate representation of lanes and street signs for difficult roads like in the New Jersey/NY area. I also loved the driver assistance alerts like the sharp corner, state law propane shut off reminders and the red light cameras (which are fun when the light is amber and you're pulling £13,000)! I haven't tried the voice recognition feature yet, except once when the device warned me about a traffic accident and asked if I wanted to change my route to save 90 minutes! Of course I said yes and he recognized my voice and diverted the route. The final feature that I found very useful is the forward feature, which lists gas stations, rest areas, and RV sites (if you choose) ahead of you at each exit. This was helpful in keeping the kids happy so they knew when the next bathroom stop was and gave me peace of mind that the truck would make it to the nearest gas station given the amount of fuel it uses towing ! All in all, I can't see myself trying software like the phone's built-in navigation (Waze/Apple Maps) again. For an RV, this is a life saver! Well worth the price and it saved me a lot of heartache on my first trip. Well done Garmin!
