Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Electro-Voice RE20 Broadcast Announcer Microphone featuring Variable-D Technology by Chris Kidd

get shura. Hum and noise, otherwise excellent quality

I love the sound quality of this microphone. When I bought it in May 2020 I was amazed at how professional my recordings sounded. However, over time, in December 2020, I began to notice background noise. The RE20 is considered the king of noise isolation and I've been using it for a few months now so I wasn't sure why. After testing various DACS (the USB I use is a Focusrite Scarlett Solo), testing many cables, I finally came to the conclusion that the microphone needed to be repaired/replaced. I contacted Electrovoice support and they sent me a new one. It worked like clockwork, no background noise, everything was great. Then, 3 months later, the same, but this time the background noise was worse. I've been looking for a problem, it turns out this is common with this mic. I thought it might have something to do with my recording environment, but wherever I recorded I always had the same hum. So I chose Shure SM7B. So far there have been no problems with this microphone. TLDR: Sound quality is amazing, but noise isolation degrades over time. Buzzing can occur, this is an online issue that many people have with this mic. It's so exhausting, especially between different gigs.
