Description of ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Electro-Voice RE20 Broadcast Announcer Microphone featuring Variable-D Technology

Professional quality dynamic cardioid microphone with studio condenser-like performance. The classic sound of FM radio voices with smooth, natural, and controlled sonic character. The Variable-D design and heavy-duty internal pop filter excel for close-in voice work, while an internal element shock-mount reduces vibration-induced noise. Steel case and hum-bucking coil provide exceptional magnetic shielding and guards against line hum. Great for podcasts, voice-over work, audiobook narration, talk shows, sports announcers, radio, broadcasting, and music production.

A station favorite that won't disappoint

With 40 years in business and 20 of them in radio, I knew a home studio and internet radio station would sound best if this mic was hacked. Works perfectly. My only recommendation would be to avoid a shock mount and choose a quality mic stand or boom that will hold the RE20 as well as the interface and your gold in place. People always compliment me on how smooth I sound during radio breaks, and I give EV credit for this piece of the industry standard that we use to broadcast athletesโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Classic FM radio voices with a smooth, natural and controlled sound character
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.

get shura. Hum and noise, otherwise excellent quality

I love the sound quality of this microphone. When I bought it in May 2020 I was amazed at how professional my recordings sounded. However, over time, in December 2020, I began to notice background noise. The RE20 is considered the king of noise isolation and I've been using it for a few months now so I wasn't sure why. After testing various DACS (the USB I use is a Focusrite Scarlett Solo), testing many cables, I finally came to the conclusion that the microphone needed to be repaired/replaced.

Pros
  • Professional quality cardioid dynamic studio condenser microphone
Cons
  • Expensive

I recommend it 100% over the SM7B for streaming

In this review I will compare this mic directly to the Shure SM7BP Pros mic:- Absolutely fantastic voice quality - Reliable metal construction - Internal pop filter - Dynamic (ideal for isolating voices with little or no sound processing) - Bass switch - Sounds comparable to a condenser microphone without picking up everything around - Compatible with multiple shock absorbers (highly recommend using one , I use one of the clamps I had for my AT-2020) - Threaded adapter included for Rode PSA-1 -

Pros
  • Steel body and humbucking coil provide exceptional magnetic shielding and protection from line noise
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
