If you want to avoid splashes and no splashes, first and foremost, BE AGGRESSIVE when you pull the trigger! Keep it firm and quick as you move it around the pan. This results in a flat horizontal spray. I'd give 4.5 stars if it didn't have to be that hard of a pull, but that's not really a problem. The top is bolted to the base and seems to click and snap in a bit. I like it, I use it often!
