Dull knives are a thorn in the side and this set is to help those of us who can't sharpen to the penny. From reading other reviews I also bought a very rough black stone to match the stones that come with the kit and it really speeds up the initial blade adjustment a lot. This isn't the only controlled grinding system in the world. - and I'm sure most of them are just as effective - but it's the only diamond-cut model in this price range, which makes it a great value on top of its functional merits. Reviews are that the blade clip is plastic and people assume it will break easily. Well I can tell you I broke mine on first use although probably not where and how you think it's most likely to break and it was my fault for acting like a clumsy jerk . The angle adjusters that match the blade clamp have grooves that engage a pin in the clamp cylinder where they slide. I managed to break a pin in one of these cylinders rendering the angle adjuster more or less useless as it just slid up and down. While waiting for the replacement clip I ordered, I simply inserted a small screw to hold it in place and used it that way. Knives are now razor sharp. The knives I use the most I have the top two stones touched up about once a week, which takes only a few minutes per knife while I watch TV. Update February 2013: I've added a second clip for longer knives - I just slip both clips in and start sharpening without moving the clip. Over the year I've added three stones to the set: black (extra large), silver (extra large), and beige (extra small). The first two take care of some of the work of setting the knife blade in place, while the last polishes it almost like a razor to prepare for a few slaps on the belt for the final finish.
