After our new pup chewed on the cord we either had to replace the vacuum or try to replace the cord. One thing I would do differently is improve the cable connectors. I only used what I had but due to the limited space in the vacuum it would be better to solder and use shrink wrap. In any case, it's much cheaper to fix it yourself than to replace the vacuum cleaner, for 200-300 dollars it's not worth paying someone to fix it. You might get lucky looking for disassembly information by your vacuum's model number. I've found similar models and just started unscrewing, probably removed more screws than I need, but taking a picture with the phone while doing this will help.
