Review on IRWIN Tools Magnetic Level 1794482 by David Bar

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Difficult to read in dark colors, the strip is VERY thin.

We liked the idea of a magnet to hold the level on a metal stand, but were concerned that you would still need tape to secure the level to keep the level from sliding on the stand. (We think a stronger magnet might help.) We also bought the non-magnetic GloOrange for comparison. The non-magnetic look (different brand) was with a much stronger tape. At this level, we valued the thicker bar over the thin one. We found that with this level we had to add a rubber band to the level as we were very concerned about the band included breaking. (About 1/4 the thickness of a medium-sized rubber band and almost transparent quality.) The dark blue color of the plastic on this tier also makes it much harder to read than the tier's lighter competition. However, it gives you hints on how to install your post and the cost is almost half of the GloOrange level. If you do not often install fences, and buy them only for very infrequent use, and add extra elastic, everything will be fine. If you install fences frequently, you may want to spend the extra money and get a lighter color with thicker tape that can also be used for metal poles. The non-magnetic level doesn't have magnets (of course), but lightweight magnetic levels still require the use of tape.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
