Review on Garmin ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Nuvi 50LM GPS Navigator by Mark Crawford

Far superior to my factory 2015 Toyota Navigation System

I have a new 2015 Toyota. The Garmin unit sits on a $1,500 factory navigation system. I started using car navigation systems in 1998. I estimate I've used about 30 different systems. This does not include the ones I used as a pilot. (By the way, if you want the BEST car navigation system, buy a Honda.) You see, Toyota's factory navigation system is dangerous in my opinion. In Toyota Nav, the PASSENGER cannot enter an address while the vehicle is moving. Voice recognition is terrible. So, with a factory navigation system, additional and unnecessary maneuvers are required to get the car to a stop and then back on the road. This is not necessary for navigation systems from other manufacturers (e.g. Honda). Garmin nรผvi 50LM charges very quickly. He found the satellites in about 30 seconds. I intentionally missed a few turns and he recalculated about a hundred feet after the missed turn with updated directions. So far the tracks seem to be pretty good. On several occasions I drove to a destination that was on the left side of the road. I had to drive around several blocks to avoid the legal left turn. Remember that no navigation system is perfect. My general practice is to "zoom out" completely and look for anything that is obviously stupid. The device is delivered from the factory in the so-called "Safe Mode". I think that's something you might want to include for teenagers. Of course, the driver should never program a navigation system while the vehicle is in motion. Make your passenger the navigator. The device is also preinstalled in 3D mode. 3D can sometimes be useful for people who don't have a sense of direction. However, the most experienced riders will probably prefer 2D mode (I recommend using "Heading up" in 2D mode). Too bad about the batteries, they are not easy to replace by the user. You can find videos on YouTube showing you how to change batteries, but Suzy Homemaker is unlikely to perform this process. obvious, insulting, warning, where to start.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
