I've been using the Cuisinart WAF-300 for a few months now. Here's what I think of its design and performance. First, it's expensive. I wouldn't pay that much for a waffle maker, but it's one of the few on the market with removable plates. I'm tired of cleaning my old waffle maker. How do you properly clean a kitchen utensil that can't be submerged in water? The thought of cleaning my old one almost made me give up making waffles. Cuisinart plates are dishwasher safe and always come out nice and clean. They simply slide in and out of the waffle maker with the push of a button on the side of the body. I've had no problems with waffles sticking, but I do spray the sheets with cooking spray before using. I only do this once, not with every subsequent waffle. Because the waffles are square, if you want your waffles to fill the entire area, you'll need to manually spread the batter into the four corners before baking. A round shape would be much better. Pancake sheets make four very small pancakes. Neither plate set is reversible. Management is very simple. When heated, the red light turns on. The green light will turn on and the device will beep several times when the temperature reaches the desired level and it's time to lay the dough. The green light will turn off and then turn on again and beep when the waffle is done. The beep is pleasant enough for a beep. Loud enough to be comfortably heard, but not the loud, shrill signal that would be heard throughout the home. There are several numbered settings on the temperature scale. I think number five makes good golden brown waffles. You can make it darker or lighter according to your preference. I read several reviews that complained about the lack of rubber pads on the back two legs of the waffle maker. That's true, but if you look closely you'll see two rubber grommets on the underside of the black plastic piece on the back of the waffle maker that wrap around the cord for storage. The legs on this plastic extension actually support the back of the waffle maker, rendering the two rear legs on the waffle maker itself useless. This is probably a more fragile design as the plastic extension supports the back of the waffle maker. Strange. The waffle iron gets hot, but the handle is always cold. Keep in mind that the handle is large and sticks out at about a 45 degree angle to the waffle maker. This significantly increases the space required for storage. The small plastic tongs that come with the kit are too narrow to pick up a waffle, you have to spread them which is a bit awkward. Not critical, but if using pliers make sure they are wide enough for the job. In general, there are some design features. I think a round shape would make pouring the batter a lot easier. Simply pour into the center and close the lid without having to spread the batter to fill the square corners. A handle that doesn't protrude would work just as well and make storage easier. But in general it bakes waffles well, the indication of when the appliance is hot and when the waffle is ready is pleasant and it is easy to clean. Would I buy this device again? Yes. If you can live with the price and design features, I think you'll be happy.
